According to this New York Times article feeling drunk and acting inappropriately may be a figment of imagination.

In a test conducted by The University of Washington,  researchers noticed that participants given drinks that tasted like alcohol - but that really contained no alcohol - acted in the same aggressive manner as those who had been given the real alcoholic drinks. The participants were in the mindset of being drunk and feeling the alcohol effects, and subsequently they acted accordingly.
