I took this photo while walking in Berkeley. I think it really sums up the creative, eclectic nature that is Berkeley.

Check out Sia’s performance of Buttons at the SXSW music fest is Austin, TX. It is a fun mix of Kanye West’s glow-in-the-dark stuff and Sia’s fun goofy side.

The Ides of March

The Ides of March, or March 15th, refers to the date when Julius Caesar was assassinated. Shakespeare replayed the theme in his tragedy Julius Caesar, and ever since then, the ides of march have been associated with a sense of impeding doom.

While searching the Internet, I found some interesting links associated with the group “Anonymous”. Of particular note, is their plan to protest various Churches of Scientology around the world today. Apparently, Anonymous started getting huge after teh tom Crusie Scientology video came out. I am interested to follow this story and see where it goes.

In the mean time, check out the video Anonymous posted regarding the protests and their “mission.”

In honor of 3.14 and Pi Day, here’s a little Don McLean. Such a classic. I think my favorite line is “while moss grows fat on a rolling stone.”

Product Review: Jarritos Soda

There is nothing like a guava Jarritos, carnitas taco and a warm California day by the beach.  Any Mexican restaurant, or street taco stand, that has Jarritos proudly displayed is bound to be a great place.

Jarritos has less carbonation than most American sodas, which makes it easier to drink and maximizes the flavor. I love how most Jarritos comes in glass bottles. There is something about drinking soda from a glass bottle that just makes it taste better.

Laurel Canyon

Yesterday, I took a drive up to Laurel Canyon. Strange whispers of Lauren Canyon have been haunting my ears for awhile now, and I thought I would go and check it out.

Giant eucalyptus trees, narrow roads, fancy cars, bungalow homes. Laurel Canyon and the whole Hollywood Hills area is a strange mix of wild nature and wild homes. Coyotes lurk in the shadows of multimillion dollar estates, while celebrities and other well-to-do folk squeeze their Mercedes through the streets.

I went for a hike in Franklin Canyon. Who knew there was a lake in Los Angeles? There are numerous placards stating that the Franklin Lake and surrounding trails were part of the WPA.

The trip inspired me to pick up the book Laurel Canyon, by Michael Walker. So far, it is an interesting and entertaining read. I will post a full review when I finish.

I will really want to go back to Laurel Canyon and let myself marinate in the Laurel Canyon scene for awhile. I’m not sure if there is a scene anymore, but I’d like to grab a sandwich and some vino and hang out at the Canyon Country Store and channel Joni Mitchell.

Paul Simon’s Ghost

Vampire Weekend channeled Paul Simon in a big way with this tune.  The lead singer’s voice is reminiscent to Paul’s.

Compare to Simon’s “You Can Call me Al”

 ”When someone great is gone.”

I listened to this song while driving down Main St. on a Sunday morning. It made me think of friends that I haven’t spoken to in awhile. Beautiful song.

Stevie Nicks is an amazing woman. Watch this video until the end and witness the tension between her and Lindsey Buckingham. Honestly, she puts more emotion into her sung words than most musical artists. Her words are emotional daggers. Goddess!
